Statement

I’ve been making Goddess dolls and reading about them for the past four years. So when thinking about the mantle and deciding what it should say, Goddesses came to mind.

In my mantle, I’ve pieced blues and purples, which remind me of the ocean where I grew up. The mantle utilizes hand-painted fabrics as well as fabrics from previous projects. I’ve incorporated stamps of Goddesses in some areas and on two squares. I also embellished Goddesses with beading, quilting, painting and stitching.

The lining represents “Women and people who have touched my life.” Through photo transfer, I have represented people who are important to me. Some of them have made me look within and reflect on my life. Others have made me think about who I am and where I’m going.

This mantle was made to empower women and celebrate our life together.
