Statement

It’s not an adventure I sought. Besides the loss of my best friend and partner of over 36 years, it was being alone for the first time in my life.

In 1999, 5 years after Charlie’s death, I decided that it was time for a new beginning. I signed up for a Quilting Cruise that would take me to Italy , Greece , and France .

For my mantle, I chose turquoise Bourrette de soi (silk) from Revel , France and magenta Viscose (rayon) from Vienna , Austria .

The image of a chenille plant is from a photo taken in Rhodes , Greece . The single dahlias, purple clematis, and water lilies are from photos of Monet’s garden at Giverny , France , and are a combination of hand embroidery, fabric paint, and machine embroidery.

Images on the magenta side were scanned into my computer, printed on fabric, then appliquéd by machine.
