Statement

Give me your country childhood
I want it
No, I need it.

Give me ocean spray and fog
to soak up through the pores of my young skin
Give me fiddlehead ferns
Along the bank of a turtle-filled creek.
Give me a sunset I can see down to the distant horizon,
where it slides into the stubble of a harvested field.

I was a city child,
but it left me incomplete, restless, not fully knitted up.
Knowing your childhood makes me ache and yearn and cry.

Surely its not too late to be a country child.
