The squares on the exterior of the mantle represent rural and small town life during the middle of the 20^th century. Just as the land is fenced into plots and each plot is designated for a specific use, it seemed to me that the community was dictating my life.

The multi-colored lining represents the possibilities that opened to me when I moved to the Big City and the ever-widening options available as the century matured into the new millennium.
