My garment is a blend of old and new materials and techniques. This piece reflects the accomplishments, energy, creativity, and the circle of support of women from the past to the present through the use of a century-old, partially disintegrated quilt, and my own design with hand dyed, painted, and stitched materials. For me, it has been both a spiritual and empowering journey. The colors and symbols have all been chosen to illuminate what is sacred and meaningful in my world.
This mantle could not have been created without the help of my mother, Ruth Krebs, and my dear friend, Judy Koss. I want to thank them and all the women I know, only in spirit, who are involved in this piece for their support, sewing expertise, and actual “hands on” participation.
