Statement
My piece brings back memories of my father inviting my brother and me to sit on the front porch with him, watch the rain begin to fall, and listen to its music, accompanied by the sounds of thunder like drums being played in the sky. The brilliance of the lightening: its shape and form, jagged, uneven like silver frayed thread: its electricity, primal, powerful, exciting, a little frightening and yet not with our father by our side. His warm, gentle, loving, accepting nature made us feel comfortable and safe. This project is a tribute to him. He encouraged growth in people the way rain encourages the earth to renew itself, the green awakening the earth each spring in a way understood and yet magical, mysterious. Both of my dear parents gave us the gift of finding peace and spiritual renewal in the beauty of nature. I hope the viewers find my piece imbued with some of that mystery and the curious magic that comes from using found materials in an unexpected fashion and that it may make them smile thinking of their own childhood experiences. |
