Statement
Our theme, “Cycles and Circles,” made me think of labyrinths. I chose the Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth for the front of my quilt because it is probably the most recognizable in the world, and because it has a flower in the middle – a symbol of growth and happiness. I think that the journey of life is like walking a labyrinth – with many stops and starts and unexpected turns, but never a place to turn around. Hopefully at the end of our journey we have traveled to the center and are happily at rest. I used both commercial and hand-dyed silk and cotton for the background. The flower is appliquéd using the satin stitch, and the quilt is embellished with silk screened designs and beads. |
