Statement
No form connects us more clearly to the collective unconscious than the circle. No recent time expressed both the disconnection and connection of humanity to one another than September 11, 2001. The year following the attacks has been anxious, fragmented, uncertain, fearful, confused, yet healing. Acknowledging and honoring these chaotic emotions visually has been important to me in building a bridge to return to inner peace and order. I have revisited many philosophies and universal symbols of the human spirit that cross centuries and cultures. Spiritual images that appear in my work – labyrinths, mandalas, chakras, the third eye – illustrate man’s efforts to make sense of his world, to find comfort, peace and order. My piece is hand-dyed and painted cotton with discharge and silk-screen printing, embellished with appliqué, ribbon and beads. |
