Elegance! Velvet, beads and crystals! Sounds like Royalty to me!

“A Royal Velvet Robe” started its life as a piece of white velvet in an NSNG workshop with Hattie Sanderson. I dyed it turquoise and magenta to morph into royal purple, then applied the devoré (burn-out) technique to remove selected portions of the nap. I put the fabric away with plans to make a garment someday.

“Someday” has come! How should I showcase the devoré?

Ah ha! A front yoke.

Looks a little plain. Hmm. Add a few beads.

Needs more sparkle. Oh! Those Hotfix Swarovski crystals I bought in Detroit. Use that special, never-been-used hot tool to affix them to the fabric.

Needs a few more beads. Might as well cover all of the devoré with beads!

Many hours of beading (Yes, they are put on one at a time with needle and thread) later, the yoke is truly Bead-Encrusted!
