Statement

For me, a robe brings images of a garment that is comfortable, probably long, with sleeves and a zipper closure or long belt tied in front. A kimono style comes to mind. I am a painter and flowers seem to be my favorite subject. My challenge was how to incorporate flowers into my robe without using a floral print or painting them on the fabric. I pieced together several light shades of green to make a ‘kimono style’ robe and realized that I would never actually wear it since it is a bit transparent and more color than I usually wear. Therefore I was free to create flowers using some bright colors in the form of a long scarf and at the first attempt they were lovely and colorful but limp. After wiring and floral taping each flower, the end result allows placing the various colors and sizes of flowers in specific places. A fun job for the display person; never the same way twice!
