Statement

The contents of this piece are a reflection of my life as an artist. The images and fabrics are gleaned from the various experiments in media and style that have been my focus and fascination for thirty years. The material used in the creation of the container for my work is, by its nature reflective, and allows the ability to change the contents of the enclosures if desired. As the process unfolded, I revisited the importance of being creative and adaptive and taking time to review the past.

The diversity of techniques and materials speak to my taste and openness to new challenges, new directions and new ideas. The fabrics and papers have been painted, dyed, stamped, discharged, marbleized, stitched and beaded. The “art gallery” of images has been photographed from my originals and transferred onto fabric. They exhibit work in drawing, painting, assemblage, print, photography and collage. I have also incorporated words –my favorite poems by May Sarton, “Now I Become Myself” (which is what this piece is all about) and a work of my own “Man of Steel”.

In stretching to reach a new goal I often have to ask for help. I would like to thank the entourage of friends and family who contributed support to the completion of this piece in one way or another and to my very existence.
