Statement
The journey from black and white to illumination began with some tubular black and white mesh… the spring-board, for my hat… a mesh sculpture! What would this wise woman say? “It’s not all black and white” What is? Newspapers are black and white and read (red) all over. A newspaper collage was to serve as my base. Can I add light and color? A search for LED lighting led me to a specialist who made this project possible. Can a plexiglass crown be made by heating and bending it around the mannequin? Yes! Can it be up-lit and down-lit also? Not only are the lights going to work, they can be cross wired, color blended and programmed to change. After bending the plexiglass, I drew the arc of the skull, Dremel drilled the design, added black felt bands to encase the lights, and beaded a finishing touch. Did you notice the red? The AHA! Moment comes during the Illumination phase of the “Problem Solving Process.” “It’s not all black and white.” There are surprises, other questions to ask, new ways to look and new ways of understanding the journey. Keep asking Questions! |
