Statement
“When I am an old woman I will wear purple And have a red hat that doesn’t go & doesn’t suit me…” I am an old woman and I wear purple. This is that hat. I am a Depression era child. We made do, made over, recycled. My unsuitable hat started life as a baseball cap. In its reincarnation it is a hat for having fun in, relaxing in, being outrageous in. I am a weaver so I used some of my woven fabric. I weave with ribbons, I bead some pieces. I use what I have. Having lived a while, I hope I am wise. Turtles are symbols of longevity and wisdom. This one was given to me by another wise woman. It is outrageous and silly. As a wise woman, I say “Relax, have fun, be outrageous.” I had fun making this hat, but I will never wear it. It really doesn’t suit me. |
