Statement
When my sons were teenagers they went on a Boy Scout trip to Wyoming. At base camp they met Tod, a gullible scout who asked, “How did you get here?” They exclaimed, “We wore our special beanie caps to fly here!” Tod said, “Wow, that must have been cool!” Yes, “The best part was circling Mt. Rushmore. Abe Lincoln’s huge nose is fantastic. Teddy Roosevelt’s glasses were cool! We almost hit Washington’s forehead.” Later, they overheard Tod talking on the phone. “Dad, these guys flew from Illinois using beanie caps.” Tod looked deflated when his father exclaimed, “Hogwash!” “Beanie Caps” became a family tale. When WJIF announced Hats as our theme, my son’s Beanie Caps adventure came to mind. I bought a beanie cap online and resized it by cutting slits and adding some stiff fabric. Next came a covering of purple fabric with turquoise splotches which I covered with turquoise and silver beads. Silver metallic cord is couched on top to coordinate with the silver blade. The twisted silver cord chinstrap will secure the cap to the wearer’s head during any flight, real or imagined. |
