Statement
In June 2009 my husband and I traveled to Paris and visited the “Memorial du Marechal Leclerc de Hauteclocque et de la Liberation de Paris et Musee Jean Moulin” where we saw an exhibit about the World War II Resistance Movement. It included a special exhibition showing the effect of the war on everyday life in occupied France – including food, fashion and activities. In the fashion exhibit wood was substituted for leather in shoes, fiber for fur, and wood shavings for silk ribbon bows in a hat. The best part was that it was sooooo FRENCH! Not one bit of chic was sacrificed! My hat is inspired by the fashion in the exhibit. I went to thrift shops and finally found a black straw hat for $5 that I covered with items from the recycling bin and things from unfinished projects that clutter my house. I hope that I have created a little French “chic” and inspired you to “waste not.” |
