Statement
During the Footwear project, I thought of different types of footwear. Would mine be artistic historical or character footwear? I could not decide. One day, a friend sent me an e-mail; the most beautiful e-mail of the year. It inspired me to create shoes for people who can't obtain any. If we are to continue as a global society we cannot overlook those who are denied basic human rights. We must know this fact and share their pain. I got the idea for these plastic bottle sandals from inventive people in third world countries who use cast-off bottles to make protective footwear. I wanted to "walk in their shoes." Each night I went to a nearby running track and walked several laps in these sandals. They are displayed on dirt from the track. |
