Statement
Shoes, Fantastic Shoes! With this in mind I visited a Goodwill Store and a pair of red satin high-heeled shoes was just waiting for me. I created pinwheels of seed and bugle beads (42 per shoe). These were sewn to each other and to the shoes with bent needles and red seed beads on red beading thread. Most stitches had to be helped with pliers. The heel fabric was too tight to stitch into, so I created the flat mats of bugles and seed beads and attached them with double stick tape. To ensure a matching pair, I created one, scanned it into my computer, expanded and printed it so that I could count the beads more readily. The toe ornaments are elaborate variations of the pinwheel. I like to think that when Dorothy sees them, she will tell Toto, "We're not in Kansas anymore." |
