Statement
For this project we were asked to tell the story of a man or woman through history. What better story than my husband's and my own? And what better way to tell it than by making a pair of socks as I am rarely without a pair of socks to knit whenever I have a moment. The sole of our socks represents the foundation of who we are and what made us who we are. My husband's parents started in China (represented by the dragon), moved to Hong Kong (represented by the waves and the buildings) and then immigrated to America (represented by the red white & blue). My ancestors started in England (represented with the Union Jack) with my Great Great Great Grandfather being the first to tread on Australian soil. I also have convict history in my ancestry (represented by the symbol for a convict). We both had a Christian upbringing (represented by the crosses). I met my husband in Australia while he was working there but we travelled to America to get married (represented by the wedding rings). We then both immigrated to Hong Kong (represented by the buildings) where our three children were born (represented by the three rows of eggs in different colours). Our lives started out differently but ended up becoming one. I have left the knitting needles in as our stories are not over. We have so much more to add. |
