What is a Process Project?

A group of Artists aware of the problem solving process, solving the same problem.  They meet regularly to present & discuss their preconceived ideas - tests, trials & changes in course that lead to the AHAA! moment - when each artist sees clearly what she will produce.

The Artists Statement

Most contain something personal, a connection to the inspiration: a memory, a life changing event, humor, or a desire to experiment with a new technique. Many share frustrations, process, materials, and "that moment of knowing often referred to as the AHAA moment", when thinking motivates doing.

Who We Are

Members of the Weavers Guild of the North Shore, The North Suburban NeedleArts Guild, and the Illinois Quilters Inc.

How did we come together?

The Fine Art of Fiber brought the three groups together at The Chicago Botanic Garden in 1997. The weavers were taking a workshop with Anita Mayer, who had created six wearable garments she called mantles. Each of her mantles represents a woman’s rite of passage. In 1998 Jan Gerber convinced Anita to conduct a mantle workshop with members from all three groups. "Mantles" was the first project mentored by Anita Mayer who also mentoed Circles & Cycles after which the group self-mentored. The above project links display our group projects by Women's Journeys in Fiber participants since 2000.
