Statement
In considering the umbrella project, for some reason I wanted to yarn bomb. Yarn bombing is taking something and covering it with knitting or crochet. It is a form of street graffiti or street art. Usually done in secret these installations surprise people when they come across them. Some would say it is illegal. While traveling in Hong Kong, I spotted yarn bombing on the hand rails of a long row of steps. Most people walking past them stopped, took photos, smiled, and touched. Some just walked straight on by, not even glancing at what was in front of them. Look around you: you may be surprised to spot examples where you least expect to find them. Even the lions at the Chicago Art Institute have been yarn bombed. |
