Statement

Gratitude has been my focus this year. This work is my gratitude for the opportunity to travel with my friend Junko to Kinosaki Japan. The Cranes in my piece are from a meditative photo shoot of nesting cranes, at a preserve in Kinosaki, which is on their migration route.

Cranes are said to have a life span of one thousand years and are thought to be the worlds tallest flying bird. They are monogamous: have been seen as a symbol of love, joy, a celebration of life, longevity, a herald of spring and light, a peacemaker.

Their pristine white feathers and majestic beauty have been captured here in simple running stitch also known as Sashiko in Japan.
