Statement

When you raise your children to be independent…it should probably come as no surprise that they grow up to be independent.

My two sons were raised to believe that if they worked hard they could do anything that they wanted to do. Consequently they both chose to move to the East coast to attend college. After college one son moved to California and then New York. The other chose to move to South Africa, London and is now living in Geneva, Switzerland. Both boys are married.... no children yet but I see grandchildren in the not so distant future.

My bird is a “thread painted” sparrow enclosed in a cage with an open door that will always stay open. The cage represents the constraints that parents often put on their children. These constraints may keep their children close in proximity but may also limit their dreams, choices and their success.

The nest clearly belongs to a fiber artist and is not empty…but filled with eggs. The eggs represent our family’s next generation which I hope will always have an open door to leave and return through. An Empty Nest is Never Empty.
