At a very young age I had a Wanderlust which to satisfy led to many trips to the airport to watch airplanes take off and land. I wondered where those amazing two and three and four engine birds were going and what those on board were going to do when they got to their destination.

My family took vacations as road trips which we all enjoyed very much. As I grew into a teenager my Wanderlust wasn’t as easily satisfied with road trips in cars and on highways, because the United States seemed like a much larger pallet.

A 1964 airport trip took me past the observation deck and into the terminal where I began the process that led me to a 40 year career as a Stewardess and then Flight Attendant for United Airlines. At last I was in one of those amazing giant birds on the larger highway in the sky.

Today, in retirement, when I think about all of those airplane flights over the 40 years, I smile.

The “Birds of My Imagination” are origami inspired airplanes that I created entirely of fused silk. The clouds, “Where They Dwell” are made of needle felted wool covered with silk.
