Statement

I have been a weaver for many years, mainly weaving cloth for clothing. I would then fashion and sew my own garments.

As any sewer knows, when you make anything, there are always scraps left over. Since these fabrics were hand woven, they were just too precious to throw away. So, many made their way into my closet where they found a cozy nesting place. Soon the Scrap Family was started.

It started out small - only a piece or two of woven fabric here and there. Just a small egg in a nest of fabric. When the first bird hatched is unknown. In time there was another one and over the years the birds grew as more and more fabric scraps found their way into the closet, feeding them and helping them to grow.

In addition to the fabric scraps, other items such as beads, thread, ribbon and sequins also found their way into the closet. The birds used these items to embellish themselves and their nest and this year, like the legendary phoenix, the Scrap Family has risen, not from the ashes, but from my closet.
