Music has always been a universal way to affect emotion. The songs of birds are no exception, if one takes the time to listen. I am lucky to hear many birds singing in my environment.

In recent years, the concept of repurposing items has become very popular so I decided to marry the concepts of music and repurposing in an artistic way. My inspiration for this came from a book of ideas on how to repurpose books.

The birdhouse is made from an old book on music. It includes the instruments, musical notes, and history of music throughout the years in every culture.

The spine of the book was used for the house roof. Pages of the book were strengthened and made into the body of the birdhouse. My feathered friends were sculpted out of clay, painted, and covered with paper strips from the same book. Then real feathers were added for authenticity. The base is also a repurposed book, covered in fabric, some of which is musical themed.

If you look at the paper on the roof, you will see that my idea of birds and their music has been recognized before.
