In Greek Mythology Zeus created Pandora, the first woman, as a revenge gift to the brothers Prometheus and Epimetheus who had stolen fire from the gods. Pandora married Epimetheus and lived happily until one day the god Mercury arrived carrying a magnificent box. Mercury wouldn’t tell them what the box contained; only that it had to remain sealed forever. He asked the couple to keep the box until he returned from a journey.

Eventually Pandora’s curiosity got to her and she pulled at the gold cord and knots and opened the box. Out flew all the evils and terrors of human kind. She slammed the lid shut; but could still hear a voice calling to her from the box, pleading to be let out.

Pandora opened the lid once more. All that remained in the box was “Hope,” the thing with feathers - *
