Statement
I love to look at artist boxes. However, the idea of creating one left me uninspired and feeling restricted. Part of the joy of Women’s Journeys in Fiber for me is the challenge of working outside my comfort zone, the group discussions, feedback and problem-solving and the resulting artistic growth. So even after two disastrous attempts (a statement on climate change that did not convey the desired message and an open, beaded “Don’t Box Me In” box), I persevered. Currently working on my paper collage vessels, I decided on a vessel (odd-shaped box?) with openings. After the vessel was fashioned, a tree grew inside it and branched out from the openings. One does not necessarily have to be boxed in! |
