Statement
I’ve never been a fan of catch phrases. What exactly does “thinking outside of the box” mean anyway? Thinking inside of the box is challenging enough! As I worked on this project, I realized if I can get past the hump of actually starting, the ideas start to flow with the materials in my hand. My first model of a needle felted brain was quite awful. Realizing what didn’t work holds value on the path to finding what does work. Working on my felted box, I was amazed at what just a few handfuls of wool can do. As a hand spinner, I have purchased wool fleeces just shorn off the sheep with no prep work. How can that “raw” fleece become a replica of a human brain, hand or face? Knowing the fiber in its unclean, messy state just furthers that amazement. What a joyful act to see the change! |
