Statement
We were a “radio family”. I can hardly remember a time in my life when there was no radio. I was born in 1944….four days after D Day. My Father was overseas and the radio was the most important communication for our family. I remember my mother listening to Ma Perkins, Fibber McGee and Mollie, and The Great Gildersleeve to name a few. I loved Our Miss Brooks, The Jack Benny Show, Father Knows Best and Ozzie and Harriet. Talk radio, information radio and music still fill my life via radios in my home and apps on my cell phone. While I will never hear a sound from my “fiber” radio, I enjoyed copying a 1940s vintage radio. The shell is made of fused silk embellished with hand woven fabric, cording, and cross stitch techniques. The dial, knobs and plug are original to that 1940s radio found at a flea market. I am a true “radio girl” from a “radio family”. |
