Statement

My piece honors ancient traditions and cultures that both worshiped and respected the natural world. Artists and writers throughout the ages have expressed themselves regarding their spiritual connection to nature and its impact on their lives. John Burrows says, “Every walk in the woods is a religious rite.”

My dear parents passed on this tradition of connecting to the world and finding peace through nature to my brother and me. I chose to express my feelings for the continuing tradition in these current times in which we so need solace.

I have used contemporary metals and fibers to reflect a human image in nature.

The metal mask is supported by a golden metallic tree trunk and roots embellished with other playful materials.

Please take a moment each day to restore your in body and spirit by spending time with divine nature in your area. Do all you can to help preserve the natural world for future generations.
