Statement

All the world’s a stage, . . .
And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages.
—Shakespeare, As You Like It

“Time does not change us. It just unfolds us.” --Max Frisch

This project brings together my desire to create a piece around my mother, Cecilia Tolentino Flores who died in 2012, age 95, with our theme of time in terms of maturation and aging. I present my mother—as well as other family members—at different stages of her life, arranged thematically rather than chronologically. My mother, an engaging oral storyteller, was not a writer so I am fortunate to be able to include a short memoir she wrote for her nursing school alumni association, her own snapshot of phases of her life.

The visual structure chosen is the still camera film strip which captures discrete moments of time. It also reflects my own love of photography.
