Statement

The Time has come, as the Walrus said, to move to a smaller place, so I recently moved from the large house where my husband and I raised our four beloved children to a two bedroom condo.

Thoughts of space have taken over my life. A friend described it as “moving your entire house into your living room”. How much space do I have? How can I use the space I do have? What treasures can I keep and what must I abandon because they take up too much space?

I love color! I see my new space as an array of colors. The exterior of the building is Red brick. Some of the sunsets that I see from my 8th floor balcony are Orange. I’ve used Yellow towels to brighten the charcoal gray and black bathroom. There is a courtyard with bright Green grass around a sparkling fountain just outside my garage door. My new living room is Blue. One wall of my bedroom is Violet as is the wreath on my corridor door.

To convey this spectrum I covered felted balls with beads in their corresponding colors and hung them from Argentum wire which is purer silver than Sterling and therefore doesn’t tarnish as much.

Motion enters the piece as it is suspended in space and dances in the breeze.
The Illusion is that I will be able to fit all of my worldly goods into one small space.
