Statement
Time is my most valuable commodity, though I have not worn a watch for over 50 years. Remarkable! when you consider that I was in the time-sensitive airline industry for 40 years. In 2004 my brother gave me this watch to commemorate the old tradition of a company giving a retiree a gold watch. A tradition now rare. Why the Gold Watch? Gold—symbolizes something of value. The watch—symbolizes the passage of time. This watch has special value. It is not even gold but has deeper symbolism than the average retiree’s gold watch. My brother knew that it was odd to give someone who never wore one, a watch. However the original owner of this watch was also our source of strength, values and character. She taught us small things like tying our shoes, saying please and thank you and the bigger things: People matter more than things; kindness is a valuable commodity; finish what you start; if you don’t have time to do it right...how do you have time to do it over; good things don’t come easily and cherish adventure. This watch is a special reminder of how precious time is in our lives. Time is what our Mother so lovingly gave us through her lessons, still having time for dancing lessons, Boy Scouts, 4-H and family. This Gold Watch is a symbol of value, time, love and reminds me that this moment is all we have. |
