Statement
This work describes a journey through time and space into fiber art. Although the details may vary, this seems to me a typical three generation immigrant story. When I think about what my grandparents and parents accomplished, I am in awe and tremendously grateful. I have put the narrative in the art itself because I want the story, the details, cause and effect, to be in the mind of the viewer equally with the more obviously visual components. Currently all of my art focuses on narrative. I use the narrative to convey what I think is an essential part of the way we women (men too?) live our lives, making decisions, weighing alternatives, using our minds. I am also grateful to John Wright, Karena Nelson, Annie Zirin, Mary Krebs Smyth, and the whole Women’s Journey in Fiber group for their help with this project. |
