Statement
I have been passionate about tulips for as long as I can remember. Tulips are wonderful, temporary – the surprise that happens to tell us spring is here. This project has given me the opportunity to combine my interests in fashion, textiles and painting. During different phases of my life, the artist in me has adjusted to life’s needs and I have been a painter and a weaver. Weaving was more manageable while my children were small, but now that they are grown my large studio is usually filled with paintings of flowers. So for me, something blooming became a painting of tulips on artist’s canvas. To make it into a coat, though, it was necessary to soften the canvas, so I washed it several times in a washing machine and then I was able to construct my coat. |
