One January, while returning to Chicago from Florida, my plane was diverted to Kentucky because of dense fog in Chicago. My traveling companion was my cat, Mr. B. Our adventure during this sojourn is the basis for my purse. During our overnight motel stay, Mr. B. refused to use the make-shift box I had arranged for him to use to relieve himself. By morning I became concerned. Hearing that our flight would not take off before noon, I decided to take him out behind the motel to see if this would help. It was raining and just barely light when our adventure began. He managed to pull completely out of his harness and took off towards the nearby woods. Twice I captured him and almost got him back into his carrying bag. Each time he managed to escape before I could secure the zipper. On the third try, with the help of some cat treats and a pair of heavy gloves, I managed to grab him, shove him into the bag and get the zipper closed. At the airport, security asked me to remove him from the bag so they could inspect it. I explained what had happened and why I didn't want to "let the cat out of the bag again". Their reply was "go on". |
