Statement
What culture does not celebrate
significant events? I think these celebrations can be
spiritual—expressing love and joy. Almost always symbolized by flowers,
where would our lives be without these joyous expressions? My mother
instilled in me this love—of gardening and flowers. Even as a young
newlywed, living in an apartment, I had a garden in a neighborhood lot.
My cape, with its intertwining trellis
of ribbon and flowers, represents how we celebrate life. Sometimes the
flowers are for therapy when we are low; other times they provide
inspiration or welcome gifts. Some just bloom and please for a single
season. My favorites, though, are perennials. To me, they express eternal
life.
But memories are also part of my cape.
Through the use of photos transferred onto the lining fabric, I literally
can wrap many of my life’s special celebrations around me.
